2006 Recap

This season was the first for the Anagnos Racing team. The decision to race was a very last minute decision, although we have wanted to race for a long time. On the drive home we saw a racecar for sale and stopped by and bought it. It was a 1994 Chevy Beretta 6cyl. The car was a previous racecar so we bought it. For the 2006 season, Tim and younger brother Shawn were going to share the task of driver the car. The car was bought about a week before practice started so there wasn’t much time to get the car ready. Also this was our first season so we didn’t know too much about dirt track racing. While Shawn was in his second race he sent the car over the wall and wasn’t driving as good as he could have. So Shawn’s father Jim decided to buy Shawn his own racecar. It only took about two weeks and Shawn’s car was ready to go. Tim took the #77 out at Devils bowl after Shawn sent the car over the wall and flipped the car several times trying to get the car to go faster. This totaled the car; there was no way it could be fixed. After this Jim, Tim’s father bought him another racecar, one that would be used for the rest of the season. After hours of searching, the next day he bought Randy Mahney’s old #25 ford probe. The car looked horrible, but the team went to work right away and started to get the car looking and driving its best. 5 days after Tim’s flip, he had the probe out at Malta. Although he only finished fourth because he was having problems with the car popping out of gear because of the bumps. After getting the stick situated with a bungee cord the car didn’t come out of gear since. The car was now a front runner, although the bad luck started to happen. While working his way to the front at Malta the next week Tim made it from 14 to First in 8 laps and was out front leading, while he was starting to pull away his right front strut broke and caused him to have a flat and end the race. After that the team put another strut on the car, one that they had as an extra part, but would later cause the team more problems. The #78 car of Shawn was having problems of its own. The car had a blown head gasket and would start to lose power after a while. After putting on a new strut the team went to Devils Bowl and got their first win. Tim led the whole race and won, almost as he did the previous week when he led 13 laps but his a wet spot and slid up too high letting Ron Zagata go by him but Tim came back strong and almost took the #1 spot back but with only two laps left he didn’t have the time. For the next five weeks after the teams’ first victory they were having some problems. Tim would be out in the lead every time and his tire would blow. After the team finally figured out it was because the strut they put on the right front was bent, one they changed the strut Tim ran at Malta, after not running there for weeks and led ¾ the race then Chris McCarthy passed him and took the win and Tim held on to 2nd spot. Now the car was finally in top running condition. Although the situation with the tire was settled, the car was pretty rusty and the left leaf spring broke and there was no way to really weld it, so holding it up with a chain and some weld, and also with a head gasket blown in three spots Tim won the last race at Devils Bowl and the Halloween Havoc race at Albany-Saratoga, which left him with a 2nd place finish in points at Devils Bowl. He only raced at Malta about ½ the season and got 6th in points. Overall Tim finished with 4wins, 2006 High Performance Award, 2006 Outstanding Effort Award, and also NYSSCA Outstanding Performance Award. Shawn finished 4th in points at Devils Bowl.
